Hasbro Q1 Preliminary Results Beat Estimates by 8% on Magic Strength

The Universes Beyond gravy train shows no sign of stopping. Hasbro has dropped preliminary first-quarter numbers ahead of its delayed full report, and Magic: The Gathering is the reason the company can suddenly afford a victory lap. Preliminary Q1 revenue landed at $970-985 million, up 9-11% year-on-year and roughly 7-8% above the analyst consensus of about $909 million.

Hasbro called out Magic specifically as the engine. That makes sense given the recent run of crossover sets: Final Fantasy, Marvel's Spider-Man drop, and the Avengers Academy WPN organised play wave landing at game stores in June. Each of those pulls in a new audience that doesn't necessarily care about Standard or Modern but will absolutely buy a Commander deck of their favourite characters.

The early disclosure is unusual but necessary. Hasbro delayed its full Q1 report to 20 May after a 28 March cyberattack disrupted parts of its corporate IT. Magic shipments were never affected, though. Stores have kept getting product, players have kept opening packs, and the cash has kept rolling in. The company hasn't said publicly whether customer data was hit, which is itself a story to watch when the full report drops.

The full Q1 numbers on 20 May will tell us whether other Hasbro tabletop properties (D&D, Avalon Hill, Hasbro Gaming) are along for the ride or quietly underperforming behind the Magic shield. With Stranger Things, Marvel and Final Fantasy crossovers all still landing this year, the pressure on Wizards to keep the hits coming is only getting heavier.
