Carl and his cat Donut have taken the tabletop world by storm. The Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG + Unstoppable campaign from Renegade Game Studios launched on 14 April as the most followed TTRPG in BackerKit history, and by today it has raised over $4.28 million from nearly 17,000 backers against an initial goal of $250,000.

Find events near youThe campaign bundles two games based on Matt Dinniman's LitRPG book series, which drops characters into game-like worlds with real progression mechanics. The books have sold over six million copies and built a massive fanbase around Carl, a regular bloke trapped in an alien-run dungeon that is broadcast as reality television, and Princess Donut, his ex-girlfriend's pedigree show cat turned homicidal spellcaster who might be the series' most beloved character.
The RPG is a skill-based tabletop roleplaying game where your crawler evolves floor by floor through the World Dungeon. The 300-plus page Core Rulebook covers floors three through five, with a Starter Set easing new players in on floors one and two. Alongside it sits Unstoppable, a solo and co-op card-crafting deck-builder where you upgrade weapons and fight mobs on your way to the stairwell.

The campaign runs until 15 May, with fulfilment expected in late October 2026. Given the pace, it could climb considerably higher before the clock runs out.
