Finspan: Sharks and Reefs Drops 13 May With Coral Reef Builds

Finspan finally gets its first expansion tomorrow, and it brings sharks. Stonemaier Games is launching Finspan: Sharks and Reefs on their webstore on 13 May 2026, with shipping starting in the second half of the month from European fulfilment, and a wider retail release coming in mid-June for UK shops.

Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.

See how it works

For the few who have not paddled into the Span universe yet, Finspan is the lighter, faster fish-themed cousin of Wingspan, the Elizabeth Hargrave engine builder that has now sold over 2.6 million copies and kicked the door open for mainstream board gaming. Finspan was designed by David Gordon and Michael O'Connell with Hargrave on development, plays in about an hour, and sits in the same family-friendly engine-building sweet spot as Wingspan, just with reef fish in place of finches. The new expansion is designed by O'Connell with Gordon and Hargrave on development.

The expansion adds 80 fish cards, five coral reef overlay tiles, and 90 reef tokens that slot onto your ocean mat across three dive sites. Build healthy reefs and you unlock more powerful reef fish, ability triggers, and end-game scoring. Sharks are the dramatic addition. When played, they scatter schools of young across opponents' oceans and leave behind food scraps that any fish in your ocean can snack on. There is also a large card tray sized to hold the base game plus this expansion and any future ones.

For UK gamers, Stonemaier ships from a European warehouse, so this is a rare expansion launch where you do not get clobbered with customs charges. Finspan is stocked widely by Zatu, Magic Madhouse and Asmodee UK, so shop shelves should follow quickly. If your group has worked through Wingspan and Wyrmspan, this is a fresh excuse to put the Span trilogy back on the table. Get the group together and dive in.
