Call of Cthulhu: Innsmouth Maps the Whole Rotting Town

If your Keeper has ever waved vaguely at Innsmouth and said "you get a bad feeling about this place", that excuse has just expired. Chaosium has released Call of Cthulhu: Innsmouth, a 272-page hardcover that maps Lovecraft's rotting Massachusetts seaport street by street and hands Keepers the keys to every locked door in it.

Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.

See how it works

The book describes more than 100 locations in and around the town, each with plot seeds attached, plus profiles for over 80 characters and encounters. There are street maps in both player and Keeper versions, floorplans for the buildings that matter, and enough gossip and rumour to let a table poke at the place for months. It also lays out the town's full secret history: who really runs Innsmouth, what the Esoteric Order of Dagon is actually for, and some new and thoroughly unpleasant details about the Deep Ones.

The credits explain a lot about the tone. It is written by Mike Mason, who has been Call of Cthulhu's creative director since 2013 and wrote the ENnie-winning 7th edition Keeper Rulebook, alongside Sean Branney and Andrew Leman. Leman directed the H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society's black-and-white silent film of The Call of Cthulhu in 2005, so this is people who have spent two decades reconstructing Lovecraft's New England writing the definitive book on its worst town.

The wait has been a long one. Chaosium last tackled the town at this scale in Escape from Innsmouth back in 1992, so a generation of Keepers has been improvising the place from half-remembered short story details.

Chaosium is pitching it as a sandbox rather than a single linear scenario, built for 7th edition with optional Pulp Cthulhu support and designed to serve wider Arkham region campaigns too. Three formats are out now: full-colour hardcover with PDF at $59.99, a leatherette edition with PDF at $99.99, and the PDF alone at $29.99, direct from Chaosium or through DriveThruRPG.

If you have been sitting on a "we should do a horror campaign this autumn" conversation, this is the nudge. Find a group near you and pick a Keeper.
