BREAK!! RPG Adds 200-Page START Companion on Kickstarter

BREAK!!, the anime and JRPG-inspired tabletop RPG from Grey Wizard, is back on Kickstarter with a meaty new companion called START, and the campaign closes on Thursday 28 May 2026. Fans of Secret of Mana, Studio Ghibli or anything from the SNES JRPG era will already know the pitch, but newcomers now have a proper on-ramp.

START is a 200-page tutorial book that walks players through the rules of BREAK!!, how to run a session, and how to build their own adventures in the Outer World setting. The most popular pledge is £50 plus shipping for PDF and print versions of both START and the GM screen. The original Grey Wizard core rulebook clocked in at 470 pages and won a Gold Ennie at Gen Con 2024 for Best Family Game, so adding a tutorial designed to get fresh tables playing in a single evening is an easy sell.

For context, the first BREAK!! Kickstarter blew past its £10,000 goal to a final tally near £492,452, so the game already has a serious following. The second Kickstarter doubles down on accessibility, including a flowchart for new players and stripped-back rules to demystify the post-apocalyptic fantasy setting where ancient ruins, mecha and weird magic share the same map.

Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.

See how it works

If you've been eyeing a D&D break and want something with Final Fantasy and Nausicaa in its DNA, this is a natural place to start. It's also a system that suits a fresh group rather than a long-running campaign, so spinning up a one-shot night is well within reach. Round up some friends, grab the tutorial, and find a tabletop community near you to share GM duties.
