Bloodstone Revives a Decade-Old Arena Brawler on Gamefound

If your group likes a last-stand brawl where one lucky roll can flip the whole fight, Bloodstone is worth a look before its Gamefound campaign closes around 20 June. Druid City Games' arena combat game for one to eight players has reached crowdfunding after more than a decade in development, and it leans into chaotic, dice-driven duels.

In Bloodstone you play a captured champion forced to fight in the arena of a ruler named Vanira. You control a miniature and use a custom dice system to attack, move and sabotage your rivals. The box is generous: Druid City lists eight asymmetric characters, more than 100 custom dice and 40 detailed miniatures, some standing over 100mm tall. You can fight competitively in player-versus-player matches, or team up for a story-driven co-operative campaign that unlocks secret content as you take down the arena's creatures.

It is designed by Druid City owner James Hudson, with art by David Kegg, whose work you may recognise from the Star Wars: Imperial Assault board game. The road here was long. Hudson first launched Bloodstone on Kickstarter back in 2021, then cancelled it when pandemic-era production and freight costs made the numbers impossible. The relaunch arrives as part of a multi-campaign partnership with Gamefound.

For backers who waited years, this is the game's second life, and the campaign has already funded. It is the kind of big, loud box that rewards a full table, so round up your players first.
