Batman: Enemies of Gotham City Arrives 15 May with 12 Villains

You don't play as Batman in this one. Upper Deck's Enemies of Gotham City, a new board game set in the Batman: The Animated Series universe, puts you in charge of Gotham's rogues gallery instead. It arrives at retail on 15 May 2026.

Designed by Daryl Andrews (Sagrada), Maximillian Dennis, and Morgan Dontanville, the game supports 2-5 players, ages 14 and up, with sessions running 45 to 180 minutes. The core hook: 12 unique asymmetric villains, each with their own playstyle and abilities. The base roster includes The Joker, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Two-Face, Bane, Ra's al Ghul, Clayface, The Mad Hatter, The Penguin, Scarecrow, and Red Claw. An expansion adds The Phantasm, The Riddler, Man-Bat, and Killer Croc.

Mechanically, this is a worker placement and drafting game. Players deploy goons to battle for control of Gotham's districts while trying to build up their criminal empire. Batman and his allies act as a constant disruption, capturing goons and sending them to an Arkham Asylum cube tower. The tension comes from balancing your push for territory against the risk of losing your workforce to the Dark Knight.

The Animated Series aesthetic runs through the whole production, with art that matches the show's iconic look. For fans of the 1990s cartoon who also enjoy games with proper mechanical depth, this sits in a sweet spot that licensed games rarely hit.

If you've been looking for a new asymmetric game to bring to your next game night, keep an eye on your local game store shelves from mid-May.
