A killing fog has risen from the ground, and it is winning. That is the world of 1490 Doom, Buer Games' grimdark skirmish game, and there is now an easy way in: a two-player starter box called The Outpost at Meerbridge, crowdfunding on Gamefound.

Set up your group for freeThe setting earns its name. Between 1490 and 1494, a murderous mist called the Creeping Death seeps up across a surreal late-medieval Europe, killing crops, animals and people, and rising higher every year until it swallows everything. Your survivors, a small band Buer calls a Doom Company, are not heroes so much as the desperate. The only way to stay alive is to climb, fight and scavenge above the fog.
On the table it is deliberately small and sharp. A standard game pits two players against each other with just three models a side, and Buer pitches a full match at around half an hour. The Outpost at Meerbridge packs everything two people need into one box: four Doom Warriors, scaffold towers you fight up and over, a battle mat, dice, cards and a booklet that teaches the rules from your first turn. The towers matter, because height is survival when the floor is death.

See how it worksBuer says it worked to keep the starter affordable without thinning out the components, which is the right instinct for a game courting players who already own too many minis. If you have wanted a grim two-player skirmish that sets up fast and finishes inside a lunch break, this is an easy pitch. Now you just need a worthy opponent, so go find one near you.
