Terraforming Mars: The Legacy of Mars Nears $2M, Ends 30 May

Terraforming Mars fans have opened their wallets in a big way. The Legacy of Mars, a new campaign expansion for Stronghold Games' hit engine-builder, has rocketed to almost $2 million (around £1.5 million) on Gamefound from more than 8,000 backers, and there are only days left to pledge before it closes on 30 May 2026.

Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.

The numbers are eye-watering against the campaign's modest $20,000 goal, which it cleared almost a hundred times over after funding on 12 May. The pitch is what has people excited. Billed as a fully replayable campaign, The Legacy of Mars carries terraforming beyond the red planet and out across the solar system. Unusually for a legacy game, you do not wreck the components as you play, so once you have finished the story you can reset the box and run it all again. For a game system this beloved, that is a tempting proposition.

If you back it, remember the figures are in US dollars, so factor in the exchange rate and shipping to the UK. The timing is cheeky too: the campaign closes on 30 May, slap bang in the middle of UK Games Expo, so plenty of backers will be pledging from the show floor. Already planning your Mars marathon?
