Unmatched: Stars and Stripes Pits American Legends in Battle

Restoration Games is staging a fight no history teacher would sanction: Wyatt Earp, John Henry, Rosie the Riveter and George Washington, all squaring off in the same tactical duel. Unmatched: Stars and Stripes reaches general retail on 24 June, landing neatly before America's Independence Day.

If you have not played one, Unmatched is the award-winning line of head-to-head battle games where wildly mismatched characters fight using their own bespoke decks and miniatures. Since 2019 it has grown to more than 23 sets spanning history, myth and fiction, and sold over a million copies worldwide. Stars and Stripes pulls its roster from American folklore and history.

Each fighter plays to type. John Henry lays railroad track tokens to build momentum and hammer his opponent; Rosie the Riveter climbs into a WWII-style mech suit she upgrades mid-fight; Wyatt Earp dispenses justice with lightning-fast guns; and George Washington runs a spy network to sow confusion. Three of the four decks come from the Unmatched fan design contest, with Wyatt Earp the lone newcomer from outside it. The box also adds a double-sided board with two new battlefields, the White House and the Alamo.

Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.

See how it works

"America is a paradox," says Restoration president Justin Jacobson, who called the set "an impossible task, but a fun one and an honour."

It carries a $45 price tag and turns up on shelves, including Barnes and Noble, from 24 June. Unmatched is one of the easiest games to teach cold, which makes it a fine choice for a night with new players: grab your group and pick a fighter.
