The Stormlamp Rituals Is a 10-Hour Puzzle Book Adventure

A puzzle book does not usually cause a stampede, but The Stormlamp Rituals cleared its Kickstarter goal in 17 minutes and pulled in more than 1,600 backers on its first day. If your idea of a good night in is untangling a mystery with a friend, this is one to watch.

The Stormlamp Rituals is a solo or two-player puzzle adventure from studio PostCurious that you read, examine and solve page by page. It is a hardback book paired with a satchel of 13 physical components and a built-in hint system, and it runs entirely offline, with no app or website to babysit. The story follows Anna, a young witch finding her way through a world touched by magic, across a narrative the makers reckon takes well over ten hours, for ages 14 and up.

The book gathers and expands Cryptogram Puzzle Post, the long-running subscription puzzle series co-authored and illustrated by Jack Fallows. That pedigree is the real pull. Fallows previously co-authored and illustrated The Light in the Mist with PostCurious back in 2022, a tarot-deck-shaped puzzle story that funded at 790% with 3,743 backers and became a touchstone for narrative puzzle design. Fans of that, or of unplugged escape-room-in-a-box games, will know exactly what they are getting.

Pledges start at $26, with a $29 retail price planned afterwards, and the campaign runs until 2 July, so there is still a window to back it at crowdfunding price. Puzzle nights are easily shared, so if this is your sort of thing it is worth rounding up a fellow solver or two before the box lands.
