The New Unknown Sci-Fi Daggerheart Funds in 55 Minutes

Daggerheart's first proper sci-fi sister is here, and backers funded it in 55 minutes flat. The New Unknown launched on Kickstarter on 28 April from German studio EuryDice, blew through its goal before lunch on day one, and has since cleared five stretch goals.

That speed isn't a fluke. Chris Davidson, who contributed adversaries to the official Daggerheart core book, is on the design team here, which gives the project genuine pedigree among Daggerheart third-party releases. Critical Role's flagship RPG only turned one this month, and the SRD has thrown the doors open to creators pushing the system into wholly new genres.

The New Unknown keeps the duality dice and domain-card backbone fans know, then bolts on a full spaceship construction and combat ruleset and a fresh cybernetic-implants item category. Four campaign frames span space opera, far-future exploration and cyberpunk, so a group can flit between Mass Effect-style first contact and chrome-and-neon dystopia without leaving the rulebook. Importantly the nine classes and nine domains are bespoke designs, not reskinned fantasy gear.

The full book is targeted at 300 to 400 pages, and a free 41-page playtest preview is already on DriveThruRPG and Heart of Daggers if you want to put the system through its paces before pledging.

If you've been waiting for the Daggerheart engine in a sci-fi shell, this is the cleanest pitch yet, and a chance to start prepping a one-shot for your group well before the book ships.
