If your shelf already has Wingspan, Cascadia, and a stack of Forest Shuffle decks, Lookout Spiele's latest cosy release belongs right next to them. Gretchen's Garden, a 2-4 player card game about collecting and nurturing succulents in extraordinary pots, is now available in the UK through Asmodee, joining Lookout's growing GreenLine series of plastic-free, FSC-certified board games.

Find events near youDesigned by Jay Bendixen and Ryan Boucher with art from Carrie Cantwell and Nele Diel, Gretchen's Garden runs around 45 minutes and is aimed at ages 10 and up. Each turn you decide whether to buy new plants, care for the ones you have, coax rare blooms, or pinch a cutting from another player's collection. Score the most impressive garden by the final round and you win.
The bigger story might be the GreenLine label itself. Lookout kicked off the eco-friendly initiative back in 2023 with Forest Shuffle, which became a quiet hit in the UK and now has Dartmoor and Exmoor expansions on the way for June. GreenLine boxes are FSC-certified, swap shrink wrap for a small paper sticker, contain no plastic, and are sized to avoid wasted space. Gretchen's Garden joins a line that already includes Forest Shuffle: Alpine and Adventurers Required.

Set up your group for freeCosy games have been having a moment, with Cascadia, Sanibel, Verdant, and now this. Gretchen's Garden won't replace your group's Tuesday Brass session, but it's the kind of game that lives in a tote bag, plays well with parents and partners who don't game weekly, and doesn't need a 40-minute teach. If you've been thinking about hosting more low-stakes nights, start one near you.
