If you have ever lost a night to The Last Spell on PC, defending a crumbling town through wave after wave of monsters, there is now a cardboard version to ruin your evenings in good company. Tabula Games has adapted the cult roguelike into The Last Spell: The Board Game, a co-operative tower defence game for two to four players, and it is starting to reach shop shelves.

Set up your group for freeThe board game keeps the video game's day-and-night rhythm. By day your heroes scavenge, build defences and upgrade their gear; by night you hold the line against the horde pouring out of the dark. It is set in the same dark fantasy, post-apocalyptic world, where a few survivors guard the last bastions of humanity. Tabula Games says a full campaign sends you to defend three different towns over a lengthy run, so it is built for groups who like a co-op game that bites back.
Video game adaptations are a mixed bag, but the tower defence structure is a natural fit for the tabletop, where planning your layout and arguing over who holds which gate is half the fun. If your group fancies a meaty co-op night, this is one to watch for at your local shop. Round up the regulars and find a co-op night near you.
