In Stonespine Architects you spend the entire game lovingly laying out a dungeon. Its new expansion finally lets you defend it. Thunderworks Games has launched Stonespine Architects: Invasion on Kickstarter, handing players a roster of monstrous guardians to throw at the heroes who turn up to loot the place.

Find events near youThe base game, designed by Jordy Adan, is a 1-5 player dungeon-builder that plays in around 60 to 90 minutes. You draft and pass cards to construct a labyrinth that matches blueprints and challenges while juggling your gold at the market. It sits in Thunderworks' shared World of Ulos setting, the same universe as the studio's better-known hits Cartographers and Roll Player, so the art and tone will feel familiar if you have played either.
Invasion bolts a whole new phase onto that. Once your dungeon is built, waves of adventurers come marching in, and you deploy monsters and traps to stop them. Heroes come in three types built around strength, magic and dexterity, each with different weaknesses, and there is a press-your-luck hook: wave in another group of intruders for a bigger payoff, or play it safe. Defeat the most heroes and you collect awards; let them escape and you pick up demerits. A Collector's Edition adds metallic embossing and deluxe organiser trays, and the campaign bundles a reprint of the base game for anyone coming in fresh.
