Most Star Trek games hand you a ship and a phaser bank and hope for the best. Captain's Chair is the one that remembers diplomacy and science are supposed to win games too, and WizKids has just given it a serious top-up.

See how it worksStar Trek: Captain's Chair - To Boldly Go is a fully standalone box, so you do not need the original to play. It is a head-to-head duel where each player takes a captain and commands ships, crew and away teams while juggling resources and alliances. Six captains come in the box, each with their own asymmetric deck built around that character's personality, allies and assets. Alongside Kirk and Khan you get Philippa Georgiou from Discovery and, delightfully, Rebner the Pakled Commander from Lower Decks.
Those decks are rounded out with a shared pool of common cards representing people, items, planets and events from famous storylines, so the same captain plays differently depending on what is on the table. WizKids is clear that shooting your way through will not win every game, which is rare in a Trek box. There is a solo mode too. It is listed at $59.99 in the US.

Cerritos and Christopher Pike of the Enterprise, plus Krulmuth-B as a starting location that opens a portal across space and time. It needs either base box to play, and it ships with six automated command cards, which suggests the solo mode is getting proper support. Bleeding Cool reports a third release revealed alongside them: Glory and Zeal, a storyline expansion for the separate Star Trek Into the Unknown game, bringing Klingon and Cardassian fleets into that one.
Six asymmetric captains, a solo mode and a box that does not need the original is a lot of Trek for one purchase. The catch is timing. WizKids lists Second Contact as in stock, while To Boldly Go is on back-order with an estimated restock of August 2026.
