The Slay the Spire: Downfall Kickstarter has crossed $5.9 million with over 29,000 backers and just three days left on the clock. When the campaign wraps on 9 April, it will stand as one of the biggest board game Kickstarters of 2026.
Downfall started life as a beloved fan mod for the Slay the Spire video game, letting players flip the script and play as the Spire's bosses. Contention Games, the studio behind the acclaimed Slay the Spire board game adaptation, has turned that concept into an official tabletop expansion. The headline addition is four new playable characters: the Slime Boss, the Hexaghost, and the Guardian (three iconic Spire villains), plus the Hermit, the mod's original hero who manipulates card positioning for devastating combos. Pledges start at $84 for the standard edition, with a $119 collector's edition offering upgraded components.
The campaign hit its $50,000 goal in ten minutes flat and blew past $1 million on day one. By the end of week two it had sailed through $5 million, putting it firmly among the top crowdfunding campaigns of 2026, trailing only the record-shattering Cyberpunk TCG (which has topped $15 million and is still climbing).
With three days remaining and 29,000 backers already committed, Contention Games has the momentum to push past $6 million before the clock runs out on 9 April. If you have been eyeing the base game or holding off on the expansion, this is the window.
The Downfall expansion is expected to ship in 2027.
