Sentinels of the Multiverse Finds New Home at Handelabra

The long limbo around Sentinels of the Multiverse has ended. Handelabra Games, the studio that has been making digital versions of the cooperative superhero deckbuilder for over a decade, has bought the Greater Than Games brand and all the Sentinel Comics titles from Flat River Group. The deal was announced by Handelabra and picked up by the industry press in mid-April.

Flat River gutted Greater Than Games in April last year, blaming the tariff crisis, and since then the Sentinels 2 crowdfunder (currently 156% funded via BackerKit) had been stalled. Development quietly resumed in February, and the acquisition now gives the game a clear home. The purchase covers Sentinels of the Multiverse in all editions, the Sentinel Comics RPG, Sentinel Tactics, the miniatures line and the co-op deckbuilder Galactic Strike Force.

One important detail for anyone panicking over their favourite co-op: Spirit Island is not part of the deal. That franchise remains with Flat River, and Handelabra's relationship with it hasn't changed, so Spirit Islanders can relax. Handelabra president Jaye Handel has also been clear that the company isn't becoming a tabletop publisher, pointing instead to partnerships with existing publishers and hinting that former founders Christopher Badell, Paul Bender and Adam Rebottaro may have a role ahead.

More detail is due on 28 April (National Super Hero Day in the US), when Handelabra has promised a full update on what Sentinels looks like next. If you're running a weekly co-op group, Sentinels is still one of the friendliest superhero card games going while you wait.
