Scion 3rd Edition Rebuilds Modern Myth on Storypath Ultra

Fancy playing the secret demigod child of a god, balancing an ordinary life with the small matter of saving the world from rival pantheons? Onyx Path has announced a 3rd Edition of Scion, its long-running roleplaying game of modern mythology, revealed at the publisher's Onyx Con virtual convention.

Scion casts players as Scions, the mortal-born children of gods drawn from real-world pantheons, from the Norse and Egyptian to the Yoruba and beyond, who discover their divine heritage and powers in the present day. It is a game about inheriting a legend and deciding what to do with it. The new edition moves off the Storypath system that ran Scion 2nd Edition and onto Storypath Ultra, Onyx Path's polished revision of that same engine, which it has been rolling out across its other recent lines.

The headline change for players is a new "black sheep" type of Scion, one with no ties to any pantheon at all, for heroes who would rather owe the gods nothing. Onyx Path also says 3rd Edition packs in more "knacks" than before, the small signature tricks that flavour a character, so customisation gets a little crunchier.

Beyond that, details are thin, and there is no release date yet, so this is a statement of intent rather than a pre-order. For existing Scion tables it is still a notable one, promising a refreshed ruleset and a fresh way in for players who want their hero to stand apart from the divine families that usually run the show.
