Anyone who has lost a weekend to Balatro now has a tabletop reason to worry. Rolling Deep, a new dice roguelike from Bitewing Games, takes that same one-more-run itch and rebuilds it in cardboard and custom dice, and it hits Kickstarter on 23 June.

Start organising for freeDesigned by Peter C. Hayward and published by Bitewing Games, Rolling Deep casts you as a trio of adventurers, their heads made of dice, descending into the heart of a volcano after treasure and secrets. It plays out over five chapters, and each one ends with a boss that rewrites the rules for that round, the sort of escalating, build-a-broken-engine puzzle that made its video game inspiration so moreish. It is the first title in Bitewing's new "Table for One" line, a series aimed squarely at solo players.
Bitewing has form. The studio, founded by two practising dentists, made its name reviving Reiner Knizia's classic Quo Vadis? as Zoo Vadis, and has built a reputation for tight, good-looking boxes. Rolling Deep clearly struck a nerve before it even launched, climbing to number one on BoardGameGeek's Hotness list during its pre-launch run.
