Nathan Steuer Wins Pro Tour Strixhaven With Selesnya Landfall

Nathan Steuer has done it again. The 2022 World Champion took down Pro Tour Secrets of Strixhaven at MagicCon Las Vegas, beating Christoffer Larsen in the final to claim a second Pro Tour title and a $50,000 first prize. His weapon of choice was Selesnya Landfall, the deck that dominated the entire weekend.

Steuer rolled into the event with momentum, going 8-0 on Day One and never giving the field much of an opening. By Top 8, five of the eight pilots were on Landfall-based decks (Steuer's Selesnya build alongside Mono-Green Landfall and Selesnya Ouroboroid), a sign that ramping land triggers into wide green boards is the call right now. With more than half the bracket leaning the same way, eyes will be on Wizards over the coming weeks to see whether Standard needs a shake-up before rotation.

Steuer's CV reads like a Magic fever dream. The 23-year-old took Magic World Championship XXVIII in 2022, then Pro Tour March of the Machine in 2023, plus two Magic Online Championship Showcase titles. His 15-month run between 2022 and 2024 is widely cited as one of the greatest tournament streaks in the game's history. Strixhaven adds a second Pro Tour trophy to the cabinet and denies Larsen the back-to-back title he was chasing.

Final standings: Steuer 1st ($50,000), Larsen 2nd ($30,000), Rui Zhang 3rd ($15,000) and Matt Nass 4th ($15,000). Top finishers also pocket invites to Pro Tour Miyako Challenger and World Championship 32, plus foil promo cards.

Selesnya Landfall has stamped its authority on Standard, so expect the deck to flood Friday Night Magic for the next few months. If you're hosting a watch party or local tournament, list it free on Backseat Gamer.
