Mr. Monopoly Joins Magic With a 200 Treasure Ultimate Card

Mr. Monopoly is now a Magic: The Gathering planeswalker, complete with top hat, monocle and a -40 ultimate that creates 200 Treasure tokens. The card, Mr Monopoly, On The Go, surfaced on 5 May when Senior Creative Director Dave Moccia posted his Heroes of the Realm award on LinkedIn, having received it for his work on Hasbro's Monopoly Go! mobile app.

Heroes of the Realm cards are an internal honour Wizards hands to staff for stand-out work. They look like real Magic cards on the front, but a custom back stops them being legal in any sanctioned event, which is exactly why the design team can put a top-hatted Hasbro mascot on a red planeswalker without anyone losing sleep. He's also the first Heroes of the Realm card to depict a character from outside Magic's own multiverse, which is part of why the reveal made the rounds so quickly.

The abilities lean hard into the joke. A zero-cost loyalty ability has you roll a six-sided die and add that many counters. "Shut Down" destroys an artefact, while "Heist" lets you play cards off the top of an opponent's library. The ultimate, "Pass Go," is the headline. Spend 40 loyalty and create 200 Treasures, with designer Jeremy Geist confirming on LinkedIn that the cost is a nod to the 40 squares of a complete Monopoly lap.

You will not be opening one of these in any pack. Heroes of the Realm cards are never officially sold by Wizards, and the program had quietly gone dark after the 2022-2023 cycle before resurfacing this year. The closest most of us will get is admiring it on screen, then knocking together a tongue-in-cheek "200 Treasures" decklist on Moxfield for a laugh.
