Mage Knight: Emergence Brings New Heroes to the Table

One of the most acclaimed solo board games ever made is getting a fresh standalone entry. WizKids has opened pre-orders for Mage Knight: Emergence, a deep adventure game of deck building, exploration, and tactical combat set in the Mage Knight universe, with two original heroes, new scenarios, and full compatibility with every existing Mage Knight product.

The original Mage Knight Board Game, designed by Vlaada Chvátil (the mind behind Codenames and Through the Ages), has been a pillar of the hobby since 2011. It consistently ranks among BoardGameGeek's top 30 all-time games and places as one of the top two solo games in BGG's annual People's Choice poll. Its blend of hand management, exploration, and tactical combat set the template for what a deep solo adventure game could be.

Emergence introduces two new heroes. Darraz Firerock is a resilient dwarf built around strength and calculated power, while Evinya Freegrove is a stealthy archer who rewards precision, mobility, and decisive strikes. The box includes three guided teaching scenarios for newcomers and five full scenarios for veterans, along with 10+ new map tiles, 35+ enemy tokens, and a stack of new Action, Spell, Artifact, and Unit cards.

Priced at $59.99, Emergence ships with two pre-painted hero miniatures and supports two players out of the box, expandable to three or four with other Mage Knight sets. The release date is May 2027, so you have got over a year to either clear your backlog or finally learn the original. The fact that WizKids is investing in genuinely new Mage Knight content, rather than just reprinting the Ultimate Edition, makes this the biggest news the series has had in years.

If you have never tried Mage Knight, Emergence looks like it could be the most accessible entry point yet. And if you are already a devotee, two new heroes and fresh scenarios should be reason enough to clear your calendar.
