Mage Knight fans, your patience has been rewarded. WizKids has opened pre-orders for Mage Knight: Emergence, a standalone entry in the adventure board game series designed by Vlaada Chvatil, the mind behind Through the Ages and Codenames.
For the uninitiated, Mage Knight is a solo-friendly adventure game where players build a hand of action cards, explore a modular map, and fight through enemies and conquer cities over sessions lasting two to four hours. The original has held its place as one of BGG's all-time greats since 2011, winning the 2012 Golden Geek Award for Best Thematic Board Game and consistently ranking as one of the top solo experiences in the hobby (currently #2 on BGG's People's Choice Top 200 Solo Games). Emergence keeps that strategic depth but adds three guided teaching scenarios to ease newcomers in, followed by five full scenarios that open things up.
Two new heroes headline the set, both bound to the mysterious Council of the Void. Darraz Firerock is a dwarven ex-miner who escaped the magestone pits of the Atlean Empire through a pact with the Council. He is built for players who favour raw strength and calculated aggression. Evinya Freegrove takes the opposite approach: a defender of the Wylden forest who specialises in stealth, archery, and precision strikes. Both come as pre-painted miniatures.
The set is fully compatible with all existing Mage Knight content, so veterans can mix in heroes, enemies, and map tiles from older sets. At $59.99 (compared to the Ultimate Edition's $124.99 MSRP), it is also a lower-risk entry point for curious players. Pre-orders are live now on the WizKids store.
