Kobold Press is running the next entry in its Campaign Builder line, and backers piled aboard quickly. Campaign Builder: Pirates and Plunder hit Kickstarter on 15 April 2026, sailed past its funding goal within minutes, and runs through 15 May.

Set up your group for freeThe Campaign Builder books are built to give Dungeon Masters a full thematic toolkit rather than a loose dump of lore. Pirates and Plunder packs in eight seafaring subclasses, including the Shanty Bard, Privateer Fighter, Gunmage Sorcerer and Seaborn Witch. You also get three wave-touched lineages (Sea Dragonborn, Ratfolk and Deep Ones), four heritages, seven pirate backgrounds, expanded ship combat, black powder rules, a treasure map generator and an infamy system for tracking your crew's reputation. Five legendary pirate lords and twenty islands give you instant hooks. Senior designer Celeste Conowitch, who runs the Venture Maidens podcast, is leading design, and the book is compatible with both D&D 5E and Kobold's own Tales of the Valiant.
Pledges start at £20 for the PDF and £40 for hardcover plus PDF, climbing to a £460 hand-bound leather edition. Fulfilment is pegged for October. Kobold has celebrated 20 years in the hobby this spring, and a track record that includes the Midgard setting, the Tome of Beasts line and last year's well-received Campaign Builder: Castles and Crowns.
Run game nights? Backseat Gamer handles RSVPs, waitlists, date polling, and game voting so you can focus on playing.
Start organising for freeIf your group is nodding at the idea of sea shanties round the table, this is a reason to pull together a summer campaign. Pick a pirate lord, mark a map, and go. Find a D&D group near you on Backseat Gamer or list your next session so local players can join.
