Kenshi Fans Drop a Free 41-Page Tabletop RPG on Itch.io

While the rest of the tabletop world keeps waiting on a Dark Sun revival from D&D, a Reddit user called Sad_Ad_8491 has gone ahead and built a full unofficial Kenshi TTRPG, free to download from Itch.io. For anyone who's bounced off Lo-Fi Games' brutal post-apocalyptic sandbox on PC and wished it played at a tabletop, this is now a 41-page rulebook away.

For the uninitiated, Kenshi is the legendarily harsh open-world game set in a sun-baked wasteland of slavers, cannibals, religious fanatics and big horrifying birds called Beak Things. Your character can lose a limb in a fight and replace it with a rusty mechanical prosthetic. The tabletop conversion captures that vibe with survival mechanics for thirst, infection and hunger, a proper social combat system for persuasion and deception, settlement-building rules, and yes, rules for swapping body parts for scavenged metal.

It's powered by the Crônicas RPG system, a Brazilian medieval fantasy RPG by Pedro Borges with 18 attributes and a heroic story-first design philosophy. That's an unusual pick for a grimdark setting, but the creator says it's been adapted to lean into Kenshi's harsher tone. The Itch.io page promises a world that's "not a world of happy endings. It's a world of hard choices, scarred bodies, and the constant question: 'How far will you go to see another dawn?'"

Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.

See how it works

For GMs scrabbling for a survival sandbox while Wizards drags its feet on Dark Sun, this is genuinely useful, and free. Worth a look even if you've never touched the video game, because the survival, prosthetics and social combat rules could plug straight into other post-apocalyptic settings.
