DC's heavyweight heroes are getting their first official tabletop roleplaying game in nearly two decades, and the writer steering it is one of the most decorated names in comics. Justice League Unlimited: The Roleplaying Game comes from Brazilian publisher D20 Culture, under an official licence from Warner Bros. and DC, and it is co-written by Mark Waid.

See how it worksIf the name does not land, Waid wrote Kingdom Come, the acclaimed DC future-history he created with artist Alex Ross, along with landmark runs on The Flash and Superman: Birthright, and an Eisner-winning stretch on Daredevil over at Marvel. Handing him the canon is a clear statement of intent.
The system leans rules-light and story-first, putting collaborative drama ahead of crunchy combat maths. You can build an original hero or take up an established icon, spending Ascension Points to set attributes like Potency, Agility and Mind, then buying powers that evolve from super strength to telepathy and magic. The centrepiece is the Crisis Die, which can drop a history-altering event into the middle of a session: an alien invasion, a sudden loss of powers, a temporal snarl. The games master, fittingly, is called the Editor.
