Horizon Forbidden West Board Game Reaches Backers at Last

After a long wait, the machines are on the move. Horizon Forbidden West: Seeds of Rebellion, the co-operative board game from UK studio Steamforged Games, is finally shipping to backers, and if you pledged in Britain your copy is quite literally on a boat right now.

Seeds of Rebellion is a fully cooperative campaign game for one to four players, set inside Horizon's own canon in the gap between the Zero Dawn and Forbidden West video games. You hunt and topple the series' towering robot creatures across a narrative campaign. It builds on the engine from Steamforged's earlier Horizon Zero Dawn board game but goes fully co-op, where the first game leaned semi-cooperative. For fans of Guerrilla's post-apocalyptic world, it is a fresh official story rather than a straight retread of the games.

The campaign was a monster in its own right, raising 1,081,679 pounds from 6,725 backers when it crowdfunded. Kickstarter copies are landing around 31 July, with a retail window running from late July into early August. Steamforged has confirmed UK and EU shipments are already en route by sea, though there is a sting in the tail: shipping to the United States is suspended for now, leaving American backers waiting while the rest of the world unboxes.

Steamforged has quietly become the go-to studio for big video game adaptations, with tabletop versions of Dark Souls, Elden Ring and Monster Hunter World to its name. If Seeds of Rebellion clicks with your group, a machine-hunting co-op campaign is a great excuse to lock in a regular game night. Set one up here.
