Ghost in the Shell Becomes an Official Tabletop RPG

Cyberpunk fans, clear a slot at the table. Mantic Games is turning Ghost in the Shell into an official tabletop roleplaying game, putting you in the cybernetic boots of a rookie agent in Public Security Section 9. The British publisher has confirmed the game is heading to BackerKit, with a release pencilled in for summer 2026.

Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.

See how it works

This is licensed straight from Kodansha and built on Masamune Shirow's original manga rather than any of the anime, so expect the franchise's signature mix of hacking, hardware and awkward questions about what is left of you once enough of you is machine. Mantic is using a bespoke system rather than bolting the setting onto an existing engine, with rules for character creation, a "synthesis" system for upgrading your body, and combat and hacking the studio describes as highly lethal.

The pedigree is worth a look. The game is designed by Alessio Cavatore, a veteran best known for Warhammer 40,000 and the Lord of the Rings wargame, alongside TTRPG writer Zak Barouh. Mantic itself has form with big licences, having previously produced Halo: Flashpoint and Hellboy: The Board Game.

A rulebook teaser is already up on DriveThruRPG for anyone who wants a taste before the campaign goes live. With a new Ghost in the Shell anime from Science Saru also due in July 2026, it is a good year to get a cell of players together. If hacking the net runs in your group's blood, it might be time to find a crew to run it with.
