Final Fantasy Heads to the Tabletop with New Board Game Line

After the Final Fantasy x Magic: The Gathering crossover became the best-selling Magic set in history last year, Square Enix is doubling down on tabletop. KessCo is partnering with the publisher to launch a new multi-game board game line, starting with Final Fantasy: The Board Game, a cooperative experience for 1-4 players that adapts the worlds and stories of Final Fantasy I, II, and III.

Gameplay specifics are still thin. This is an announcement rather than a hands-on preview, and designer Anthony Thorp has kept the mechanical details under wraps. What we do know: it is cooperative, it targets 1-4 players, and KessCo CEO Alex Kessler has described the goal as "a faithful adaptation that honours what fans love most about the Pixel Remaster Era while delivering something fun, accessible, and collectible for the tabletop community." KessCo is a newer publisher, making this a high-profile debut for the studio.

The deal between KessCo and Square Enix covers multiple games, so Final Fantasy IV through VI and beyond could follow if this first release lands well. That is an exciting prospect for fans who grew up with the SNES era entries.

Alongside the board game, KessCo is launching collectible RPG dice sets inspired by the Final Fantasy I-VI Pixel Remaster designs, each featuring sculpted character figures atop the dice containers.

Both the board game and dice sets arrive in Q3 2026. If you have been waiting for a way to bring the Crystals, Warriors of Light, and job systems to your gaming table, this autumn could be your moment.
