If a sprawling campaign card game was always a tough sell for your group, Earthborne Games has built something easier to get to the table. Earthborne Trailblazer is a new standalone co-operative board game set in the same far-future, nature-soaked world as Earthborne Rangers, and it went live on Kickstarter on 26 May 2026.
Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.
See how it worksEarthborne Rangers landed in 2023 to a wall of critical praise, much of it for its gorgeous art and its open, customisable take on co-op storytelling, where you build your own Ranger and wander a living valley at your own pace. The snag was the format. Rangers plays as an ongoing campaign card game, which is a wonderful thing to sink into over weeks but not the easiest pitch for a casual evening. Trailblazer reshapes that setting into a board game for 1 to 5 players, sending you and your friends out as Rangers exploring untrodden lands beyond the valley, lending a hand to communities and uncovering stories across a big illustrated map.
The focus sits on exploration and discovery rather than combat, which suits the calm, naturalist tone the studio has become known for. It is pitched as a friendlier doorway into the Earthborne world for groups who want the atmosphere without the long-haul commitment.
Run game nights? Backseat Gamer handles RSVPs, waitlists, date polling, and game voting so you can focus on playing.
Start organising for freeEarthborne also used the launch to do something you do not often see from a board game studio. It released an animated short called "Journey to the Source", which it describes as a proof-of-concept for a possible animated series, with whether it goes further resting on community support.
If the campaign delivers what it is promising, this could be the simplest way yet to get a table into the Earthborne setting. Time to round up the group and find a game night near you.
