Dropout's Game Changer Heads to Kickstarter as a Board Game

Sam Reich's Game Changer, the comedy game show on Dropout where the rules change every episode, is making the leap to your table. Game Changer: Home Edition launches on Kickstarter on May 5, 2026, with the team taking the crowdfunding route to involve fans directly in development.

If you haven't seen the show, the premise is deceptively simple: contestants play games without knowing the rules, figuring them out as they go. Since premiering in 2019, it has become one of Dropout's biggest hits, racking up millions of views across eight seasons and counting. Dropout itself has become a heavyweight in the tabletop-adjacent space, also producing Dimension 20, one of the most popular actual-play D&D shows around.

We don't yet know player count, play time, or whether you'll need a dedicated host. All of that will make or break whether this captures the show's chaotic energy in a box. What we do know: the campaign will include Kickstarter-exclusive items, and the team has explicitly confirmed no generative AI is involved (a notable commitment given recent controversies in tabletop). The game won't be available through wholesale, at least initially, and the team says they want to "make this with you, not just for you," suggesting backer feedback will shape the final product.

The crowdfunding approach makes sense for something this unusual. Game Changer's whole identity is built on surprise and unpredictability, and getting that right in a box is a design challenge worth taking seriously.
