Find events near youSchacht is a name worth knowing. He designed Zooloretto, which won the Spiel des Jahres in 2007, and the much-loved card game Coloretto. Double Seven sits in the same cosy-but-clever space. It is a set-collection game for 2 to 4 players, ages 8 and up, that plays in around 20 minutes. Each turn you pick up two tiles, face-up or face-down, then start or grow families of animals like foxes, squirrels and stags. Get a family to seven tiles and you claim a 7 token. Claim a second and you grab the 77 token too, which ends the game after everyone takes one last turn.
The catch is that opponents can swap families of equal size, so the squirrel dynasty you have been nursing can suddenly belong to someone else. That trading-and-pinching tug of war is what lifts it above a straight rummy clone. The retail box comes with 91 chunky acrylic tiles, but on Board Game Arena you can try the whole thing in your browser at no cost.
