Dark Horse Comics is heading into the mist-shrouded Domains of Dread this summer. Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft, a four-issue comic miniseries, launches on 19 August with monster hunter Ez D'Avenir, one of Van Richten's proteges from the tabletop RPG sourcebooks, at the centre of a mystery that could unravel the entire Demiplane.
The premise: Ravenloft is falling apart, and nobody knows why. Ez tracks an undead creature through the frozen wasteland of Lamordia, D&D's Frankenstein-inspired domain ruled by Dr Viktra Mordenheim, an amoral scientist obsessed with conquering death. When Mordenheim catches wind of Ez's quest, the hunter becomes the hunted.
Writing the series is Amy Chu, who won a Bram Stoker Award for her graphic novel Carmilla: The First Vampire and has written Poison Ivy, Ant-Man, and Red Sonja across DC and Marvel. Line art comes from Ariela Kristantina, with colours by Arif Prianto (Green Lantern Corps) and letters by Haley Rose-Lyon. Issue #1 gets five variant covers from artists including Riley Rossmo and Francesco Francavilla.
Dark Horse took over the D&D comics licence from IDW in 2025 after 14 years, and this miniseries joins their Fallbacks miniseries in Dark Horse's growing D&D publishing programme. The publisher positions it as "the perfect companion" to Ravenloft: The Horrors Within, the upcoming RPG sourcebook from Wizards of the Coast.
Issue #1 runs $4.99 and is available for pre-order at comic shops now.
