The devil goat, the owl and the snake are about to muscle in on the Lamb's turf. Cult of the Lamb: The Board Game, the official tabletop version of Massive Monster and Devolver's BAFTA-nominated roguelike, goes live on Kickstarter on 21 July 2026, and it is the work of a British studio you may already know.

Start organising for freePaper Fort Games, based in Nottingham, is the team behind Terraria: The Board Game, the co-op adaptation that is now shipping to backers. For Cult of the Lamb they are keeping the video game's split personality intact. Up to four players each take on a prophet, the Lamb, the Goat, the Owl or the Snake, and race to build the most devoted flock of woodland worshippers.
Every round breaks into two halves. First comes the crusade, a light dungeon crawl where your prophet heads underground to batter heretics, grab upgrades and square off against the four bishops of the Old Faith for big points. Then it swings back to your camp for a cult-building worker-placement phase, where followers are sent off to worship, work or wander, and where you can (naturally) sacrifice the odd believer. Each follower gets a wooden head, a name and a personality, slotted into a coloured robe miniature. Solo players are covered too, with a mode that sends the Lamb after all four bishops alone.

See how it worksMore than 18,000 people have already signed up to be notified when the campaign opens, so expect pledge levels to fill quickly once they go live on 21 July. If it lands like Terraria did, this could be one of the UK crowdfunding stories of the summer. You can hit the notify button on the campaign's Kickstarter page now, and for the day it finally reaches tables, that is what Backseat Gamer is for.
