Two of the most-played family games in the world are about to become one. Carcassonne Labyrinth mashes together Carcassonne, the tile-laying favourite, with Ravensburger's maze-sliding classic Labyrinth, and it has both original designers on board.

Set up your group for freeKlaus-Jürgen Wrede, who created Carcassonne, and Max J. Kobbert, the designer behind Labyrinth, have teamed up for the crossover. The result borrows the signature move from Labyrinth: on your turn you shove a tile into the shifting grid, which pops another tile out the far side. You then take that ejected tile and add it to your own personal city. Reaching your goals earns you tiles and tokens, and over ten rounds you stack them up. Whoever builds the tallest stack wins. It plays 2 to 4, with a solo mode for one.
There's real pedigree here. Carcassonne won the Spiel des Jahres, board gaming's biggest award, back in 2001 and has been a gateway staple ever since. Labyrinth is one of the most successful family games Ravensburger has ever put out, a maze-sliding fixture of games cupboards for decades. Fusing the two is the kind of idea that sounds obvious once you hear it, and the fact both designers are involved, rather than one publisher simply bolting the names together, makes it more than a cash-in.
