Monte Cook Games is turning Roanhorse's acclaimed Between Earth and Sky trilogy into a tabletop roleplaying game, set in Meridian, a lavish fantasy world inspired by the civilisations of the pre-Columbian Americas rather than the usual medieval Europe.

Instead of another castle-and-dragon fantasy, players step into a world of powerful oracles, feuding clans, dangerous gods and forbidden magic. The announcement teases characters who can command water as a daughter of the sea, send a flock of crows to do their bidding, or slip into someone else's dreams. Roanhorse's books run on prophecy and hard choices, and the game leans into that tension between human and divine, loyalty and conscience, who you are and who you are fated to become.
The design team is the reason to pay attention. It is led by Monte Cook Games' senior designer Shanna Germain, working with Kenna Alexander of Coyote & Crow Games (the studio behind the RPG Coyote & Crow), alongside a team of Indigenous American and Colombian artists. That is a thoughtful pairing for source material rooted in Indigenous American history and worldbuilding.
