AllPlay's River Valley Jewelcraft Hits Kickstarter 28 April

If the cosy drafting of River Valley Glassworks ever hit your table, the next game in the series is about to launch. AllPlay revealed River Valley Jewelcraft last week, with a Kickstarter launching on 28 April. It is the next stop in the studio's quiet-but-dependable run of approachable, good-looking games that people actually finish before bedtime.

Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.

See how it works

The new game is a dice-driven design in which players take on the roles of burrowing critters mining gems to craft jewellery. Each cosy creature has a special ability that helps extract rare gemstones from the rubble below River Valley, and players can pick up upgrades as they go to mine better and craft more powerful jewellery cards. It supports one to five players, runs for 60 minutes, and is aimed at ages 10 and up.

AllPlay is calling it a spiritual successor to both River Valley Glassworks, a tactile drafting puzzle with a 7.3 BGG rating that earned strong reviews from The Dice Tower, and Things in Rings, a cooperative logic-puzzle game. That is a good pedigree: Glassworks picked up a loyal following for being fast, fun, and cleverer than it looks, while AllPlay's last Kickstarter, a bundle reprinting the long-out-of-print classic Container alongside GRUNTZ and Triangulation, pulled in $1.1 million from over 13,700 backers.

If you fancy the cosy-but-clever lane, the Kickstarter will be worth a look. And if your group already owns Glassworks, Jewelcraft should slot into the same teach-in-five-minutes shelf as its older sibling.
