Akropolis fans, here is one for the gaming-with-quieter-players pile. Gigamic's Akropolis: Pantheon reaches UK shops priced at £15.99 RRP, distributed by Hachette Boardgames UK, and it does something the original game did not: turns Jules Messaud's tile-stacking puzzle into a fully cooperative experience.
Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.
See how it worksThe base game, an As d'Or 2023 winner and Spiel des Jahres 2023 recommendation, asks you to build the prettiest ancient Greek city by puzzling and stacking hexagonal tiles. Pantheon keeps the tile-laying skeleton intact and bolts on a shared challenge: instead of scoring against each other, 1 to 4 players are working together to please the gods of Olympus, with divine goals replacing the usual every-player-for-themselves scoring. You still get the satisfying click of finding the right plaza or the right stack, but now the table is cheering on your placement rather than quietly hoping you mess it up.
The expansion clocks in at the same family-friendly tempo as the base game, around 45 minutes for a full play, with an age 8+ rating. It also brings a solo mode along for the ride, which makes it a tidy pick-up for anyone who loved Akropolis but plays mostly with one other person, or a partner who has had quite enough of being beaten by your purple-tile blocks.
Got a regular group? Create a private community, poll for the best date, vote on games, and let your friends RSVP in one place.
Set up your group for freeThis is the second expansion after Akropolis: Athena, and Gigamic seem to be steering the brand into the cosier, less-competitive corner where games like The Crew and Paleo live. That is a smart read of the room. Co-op euros are gaining shelf-space, and Akropolis already has the visual appeal and "but five more minutes" pull to slide into mixed-group game nights.
If your Friday group has been edging towards more cooperative games, this is an easy add to the rotation. Want a regular evening to actually play it? Set up a game night on Backseat Gamer and let your friends RSVP.
