Renegade Game Studios is bringing Matt Dinniman's six-million-copy LitRPG phenomenon to the tabletop with two games launching on BackerKit on April 14. The campaign already has over 65,000 followers, making it one of the most anticipated tabletop crowdfunding launches of the year.
The first game is a full tabletop RPG where players become crawlers in the brutal, televised labyrinth known as the World Dungeon. Character creation includes dozens of backgrounds, customisable skills, races, deities, and classes. You can play as Carl, Princess Donut, Florin, or Prepotente, or build your own original crawler. The second game is Dungeon Crawler Carl: Unstoppable, a solo or 2-player cooperative deckbuilder using John D. Clair's card-crafting system, where players upgrade abilities and equipment during play.
At GAMA Expo in March, Renegade unveiled a pre-painted miniatures line to go alongside the RPG. Miniatures Set 1, titled The Royal Court, features nine figures including Princess Donut, Katia Grimm, Mongo, and multiple versions of Carl. The miniatures are designed for the RPG but work with any homebrew miniatures game.
For anyone unfamiliar with the source material, Dungeon Crawler Carl follows a man and his ex-girlfriend's cat navigating a deadly dungeon crawl broadcast as an intergalactic reality show. The series has sold over six million copies, been translated into 20 languages, and has a Peacock TV adaptation in development. With 65,000 people already waiting to hit pledge, April 14 could be a big day for Renegade.
