Adventurers Required Is a Card Game of Robbing a Wizard

Picture your group crowded round the table holding their breath, because the wizard upstairs is starting to stir. That is the pitch behind Adventurers Required, a new card game from Lookout where 3 to 8 players assemble a team of adventurers to sneak through a wizard's tower and walk off with his treasure.

The catch is noise. Every adventurer you recruit makes a racket, and if your team gets too loud you will wake the wizard and blow the whole job. A bard or a druid each brings their own strengths and their own volume, so the trick is pairing the right rogues together, since even the loudest brute can creep in quietly with the right partner. Each round you reveal the next floor, draw four adventurer cards (peeking at only some of them), then decide who makes the cut from your hand, the market, or a blind grab off the draw pile.

It is designed by Bethany Linder and plays in 15 to 30 minutes for ages 10 and up, which puts it in filler and warm-up territory rather than main-event strategy. That 3-to-8 player range is the real headline. Games that genuinely work at a big, full table are rare, and most are party games rather than something with actual decisions, so a press-your-luck recruiting game that scales to eight is a useful thing to have in the cupboard.

Lookout is better known for heavier fare like Agricola and the hit card game Forest Shuffle, so a breezy big-group heist is a nice change of pace. It is out now and already on UK shelves through the likes of Wayland Games. If your group is forever one or two people too big for the game you actually wanted to play, this might be the one that finally fits everyone in, so round up your crew.
