World Order Pits Four Superpowers in a Hegemony Sequel

If you loved arguing your way through Hegemony: Lead Your Class to Victory, the studio behind it has built you a new battlefield. World Order, the follow-up from Hegemonic Project Games, trades a single nation's class struggle for the whole planet, and it is reportedly reaching shelves this June.

World Order is an area-control and deck-building game for 2-4 players that runs a hefty 120 to 180 minutes. You take charge of one of four global superpowers, the United States, China, Russia or the European Union, and jostle for dominance through diplomatic, economic and military tactics. Each power plays very differently, in keeping with the studio's love of deep asymmetry.

The pedigree here is serious. Hegemony, released in 2023 and designed by Vangelis Bagiartakis and Varnavas Timotheou, became a heavy-strategy darling. It holds an 8.4 rating on BoardGameGeek, and its publisher counts it among the site's all-time top 50. That first game raised 600,369 euros from 10,801 backers. World Order has already sailed past it, drawing more than 2 million euros from over 13,000 backers across its Kickstarter and Gamefound campaigns.

This sits firmly at the heavy end of the shelf, three hours of negotiation, manoeuvring and table talk, so it rewards a committed group who will see a full game through. If your regular table fancies a proper geopolitical wrestling match, round up your most patient friends and find a group on Backseat Gamer.
