Mantic Games has found a clever way to bring back a beloved miniatures game. The Walking Dead: All Out War, the comic-based skirmish game that first hit tables in 2016, has relaunched as a 3D-printable monthly subscription through MyMiniFactory's paid Tribe membership tier.
In the original game, players control small groups of survivors scavenging for supplies and fighting off walkers and rival factions in tight, scenario-based skirmishes. Now, for $10 per month, Tribe members receive printable STL files for miniatures, rules content, and narrative scenarios that follow the comic's storyline arc by arc. The first paid month covers Days Gone Bye part 1, Rick Grimes's story from the start of the comic. New subscribers also receive a free Welcome Pack that includes Brian Blake, the Prelude to Woodbury solo rules, Negan, Rick's Badge, the core rules PDF, and a handful of walkers and survivors to get started.
The original game was funded through a 2015 Kickstarter that raised $685,853 from 3,737 backers, shipping to retail the following year. After losing and later re-acquiring the Walking Dead licence, Mantic chose to go fully digital rather than return to plastic production, keeping the game alive without the overhead of physical manufacturing.
The 3D printing angle makes the game more accessible in some ways (no hunting for out-of-print expansions) and less so in others (you need a printer). For hobbyists who already own one, though, the value proposition is strong: a steady drip of themed miniatures and scenarios for $10 a month. A launch promotion adds a $10 bonus voucher redeemable across MyMiniFactory's wider store.
