Mindclash Games has returned to Kickstarter with Voidfall: Resurgence, the first major expansion for its acclaimed space 4X game, and backers have responded in force. The campaign has passed 750,000 euros from over 4,600 backers against a 100,000 euro goal, with the campaign running until 2 April.
Voidfall, designed by Nigel Buckle (Imperium: Legends, Imperium: Classics) and David Turczi (Anachrony), with art by Ian O'Toole, launched in 2023 to strong reviews. It currently sits at an 8.5 rating on BGG with a hefty 4.6 complexity score. What makes it distinctive in the 4X space is its fully deterministic combat. There are no dice rolls. Every battle outcome can be calculated in advance, rewarding preparation over luck.
Resurgence introduces Psionics, characters who can channel the energy of the Voidborn corruption without being consumed by it. The new Psionic Agenda Deck adds powerful, reusable abilities for deeper House customisation, while one-time-use Psionic Combat tokens let players launch devastating strikes or raise impenetrable barriers at key moments. The expansion packs in six new Houses (three built around the Psionic mechanics), 12 new technologies, fresh scenarios, and improved co-op and solo modes, including a 1-2 player campaign that originated in the community and has now been officially integrated.
For newcomers, the campaign also offers a Galactic Box reprint, an all-in version with miniatures and optimised storage. The original Voidfall Kickstarter attracted over 12,000 backers and raised nearly 1.5 million euros, so Resurgence is tracking well by comparison.
If you have been curious about Voidfall but put off by the complexity, the improved solo and cooperative modes in this expansion might be a good entry point.
