Unhappy Arrangements Turns Fantasy Weddings to Chaos

Picture trying to marry off a vampire countess to a gelatinous cube, with ninety seconds to explain why they make a perfect match. That is a normal turn in Unhappy Arrangements, the indie party game that quietly stole the show for a lot of people at UK Games Expo 2026.

Run game nights? Backseat Gamer handles RSVPs, waitlists, date polling, and game voting so you can focus on playing.

Made by UK studio Orcwood Games, Unhappy Arrangements casts each player as a scheming fantasy family growing its wealth and power by marrying into rival houses. One player presents a bride, then everyone else pitches a suitor from their hand, spinning ridiculous stories and cutting daft deals to argue why their goblin, ogre or witch belongs at the altar. It plays like a tabletop cross between a roleplaying game and a dating app, with all the chaos that implies.

This is a talk-heavy, laugh-heavy filler where the comedy comes from the table rather than the components. The box keeps things light: 60 character cards, a stack of power counters and gold coins, a three-sided die, a reference card and the rules leaflet. Rounds are quick, the cast of creatures is gloriously silly, and your success rides entirely on how well you can sell a terrible idea with a straight face.

Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.

At £20 it sits squarely in impulse-buy territory, and it has already sold out once on Orcwood's own shop, which is a good sign for a small release riding post-Expo word of mouth. If your group loves games where the best storyteller wins, put this one on the radar.

Got a games night that enjoys a good argument? Find a group near you and put it to the test.
