Starfinder's Secrets of the Swarm Sends Heroes Into a Hive

A whole planet goes quiet, and by the time anyone comes looking the enemy has already turned it into a nursery. That is the opening of Secrets of the Swarm, the next Adventure Path for Paizo's Starfinder Second Edition, and it is the kind of premise that sells itself to a table that likes its science fantasy with teeth.

The Szandite Collective is a peaceful federation of worlds linked by magical crystals. When the planet Krethiskar fell silent, the galaxy's worst fears were confirmed. The Swarm, Starfinder's hive-minded devourers, had torn through Krethiskar's defences and turned the world into an incubator for future generations of shock troops. The nastier wrinkle, in Paizo's own telling, is that the Swarm might not simply be annihilating what it conquers. It might be converting it into terrifying new weapons.

It is a 144-page hardcover carrying a complete campaign for characters of levels 6 to 10, so this is mid-campaign material rather than a starting point. A rules appendix adds new playable ancestries, magic items and monsters, which means the book keeps earning shelf space long after the campaign wraps up. Paizo lists the standard edition at $49.99, with a limited deluxe hardcover at $69.99, bound in faux leather with metallic deboss cover elements and a bound-in ribbon bookmark.

Starfinder Second Edition is Paizo's science fantasy line, so this is spaceships, crystal-linked worlds and hive-minds rather than dungeons and dragons. Secrets of the Swarm is expected in shops on 2 September 2026, which gives you about five weeks to work out whether your group fancies picking a fight with something that outnumbers them by several million.
