Slay the Spire: Downfall Closes Wednesday at Over $3.7 Million

Downfall flips the original Slay the Spire board game on its head. Instead of climbing the Spire as a hero, players take on the roles of its most iconic bosses: Slime Boss, Guardian, Hexaghost, and Hermit. Your job is to band together and defeat Neow, the entity who has been sending adventurers up the tower. The expansion is based on the beloved Downfall community mod for the PC game, which has been downloaded millions of times and essentially functions as a second game within Slay the Spire.

Contention Games' original Slay the Spire board game raised $3.9 million back in 2022 and has since earned strong reviews for capturing the deckbuilding tension of the video game. The Downfall expansion adds four new boss-player boards, new cards, tokens, and content designed to slot into the existing game.

One exclusive worth noting: the Bag of Preparation, a custom carrying case built to house the entire Slay the Spire board game collection, is only available during this Kickstarter window. If you want one, Wednesday is your deadline. Estimated delivery for all Downfall content is April 2027.
