Good news for anyone who has spent years hunting down a copy of Shiver Me Timbers: the pirate sandbox is sailing back. Designer Michal Vitkovsky and publisher Weltflucht Verlag have returned the game to crowdfunding on Gamefound, and this time the reprint comes bundled with a brand-new expansion.

See how it worksFor the uninitiated, Shiver Me Timbers is a heavily thematic sandbox game for one to five players set in the Golden Age of Piracy. First crowdfunded back in 2019, it built a devoted following for turning you loose in an open world of raiding, trading, treasure-hunting and ship-to-ship duelling. A modular board of sea lanes and islands shifts every game, and each captain secretly picks which objectives to chase, so no two voyages play out the same. The neat twist is the physical ship upgrades: you bolt actual cannons, sails and hull sections onto your vessel as you go, rather than shuffling yet another upgrade card.
Under the swashbuckling theme sits a surprisingly crunchy Euro brain, with a tactical, card-driven combat system that rewards planning your actions over rolling dice and hoping. That blend of sandbox freedom and Euro tightness is a big part of why used copies became so hard to track down.

Start organising for freeThe headline draw for returning captains is a fresh expansion, Gunpowder Glory, which opens up new islands and adventures and even lets you found a Pirate Republic and pursue hidden political agendas. If a proper pirate epic has been missing from your shelf, this is the moment. The Gamefound campaign is live now and runs through late July, with the reprint and expansion shipping to backers down the line. Round up a crew, find a game night, and go make some enemies on the high seas.
