Stonemaier Games is making two of its biggest titles fight each other. Scythe vs Expeditions is a standalone two-player game arriving Q3 2026 that pits a Scythe faction against an Expeditions character in a race to earn four stars on a trimmed-down map.
Scythe (BGG #16, one of the most popular strategy games of the past decade) and its 2023 sequel Expeditions share a world but play very differently. One is a tense area-control engine-builder; the other is a competitive, card-driven engine-builder focused on exploration. The duel game bridges both, letting each player use the mechanics from their respective title while competing on a shared board.
It also doubles as an expansion for both existing games. The box includes a brand-new Scythe faction and a new Expeditions character, both fully compatible with their parent games. Add-on packs bring metal mechs and a plastic airship for Scythe collectors.
If you already own one or both games, you can mix and match freely. Want to run Scythe vs Scythe? Go for it. The game supports any combination of existing factions and characters.
The announcement was part of Stonemaier's full 2026 lineup reveal, which also includes a lighter 30-minute Wingspan spin-off, a combined Euphoria Essential edition, the first Finspan expansion, and Smoking Bones, a new title from artist Andrew Bosley (who illustrated Tapestry). Pricing has not yet been announced.
