Octopath Traveler TRPG Arrives in English This October

If you have ever wanted to explore the world of Orsterra with dice instead of a controller, Dark Horse and Square Enix are making it happen. The Octopath Traveler TRPG Rulebook, originally released in Japan in 2022, is getting its first English edition on October 6, 2026, priced at $59.99 for a 328-page hardcover.

The tabletop RPG, designed by Yura Kubota and Japanese studio F.E.A.R., uses a straightforward 2d6 system. Players can either create original characters with custom classes and backgrounds, or pick up pre-built character sheets for familiar faces from the video games. The rulebook includes pre-written campaigns and enough lore to let game masters build their own adventures within the official Octopath Traveler timeline, drawing from both the original game and Champions of the Continent.

For those unfamiliar with the source material, Octopath Traveler is a JRPG known for its gorgeous "HD-2D" pixel art style and its structure of eight interwoven character stories. The series has sold over seven million copies worldwide and built a dedicated fan community that has been asking for this English translation for years.

The rulebook is available for pre-order now from Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and local bookstores. If your group enjoys JRPGs and has been looking for a lighter alternative to D&D's crunchier systems, this 2d6-based approach could be worth a look.
